My DVD FAQ

The Cell

The Cell is a very serious film, it points the finger at the thought of what goes on inside a criminal mind. While the plot might not have this direct aim, we see Jenifer Lopez drop into a nice minded character, one who spends her time trying to help a mentally disabled child, is put in the driving seat of trying to find information from a murder on who his latest victim is. The plot is somewhat slow to develop, most of the time is used to be aquatinted with the characters and the environment the mind can image.

We first see some action when the demented killer stalks his pray, slowly easing his way into a capture, later he will prison them in a timer filmed by four cameras for his enjoyment later. This timer has already sent several women to their death, afterwhich the killer dresses them up as dolls later discarding them for a new one.

The team of detectives and help from Kathryn (JL) they must retrieve the information concealed in the killer, but to make it even harder they found the man unconscious in his kitchen after a a bad attack. However going into this bizarre mind unleashes all the would be reasons for his obsession with dolls, and the mind isn't exactly a paradise, its crowded with evil spawned by a horrific upbringing. The plot is very original and lets a little too much to the level of information given. This new theme for the movie allows the creative side to pull forward, with complex colours environments and characters the mind seems a very interesting place to see.

Video Quality

Video quality for the cell is impeccable, the colour and contrast are spot on, this mixed with the various lighting effects make the movie a dark yet colourful experience. The effect of using light to emboss colours and give the rooms a lot of atmosphere and feel make the movie all very tangible. Detail of the production is very good too, you can't see any pop marks or scars from transport, it is all very solid and looks great.

Audio Quality

Dynamic range is very full, from the quite silent almost vocal parts to the explosive action sequences, and exotic music play. The surround mix of Dolby Digital 5.1 is used to full effect, there is a good spacing of surround sound and the atmosphere is created using echoes and space like sounds. Once again this is a brilliant aspect of the movie.

Extras

The extras a limited, the commentary and 57 minutes of extras make for a decent value level. The interactivities are well made and designed, the trailer is the usual one. Still there could be more added.
